There may be some instances when the one assembly area is not adequate, such as when it is unable to accommodate everyone. So, what do you do if you can’t fit everyone in the one assembly area during an evacuation?
Prior planning should be implemented to ensure that you are prepared if a single assembly area cannot accommodate everyone. This includes:
🟠 Assessing the assembly area capacity to ensure that all persons will fit including staff, students, residents, roll callers, and wardens
🟠 Identifying alternate assembly areas, ensuring they are easily accessible and safe. The alternate assembly areas should be clearly highlighted in your evacuation plan
🟠 Ensuring that all assembly areas comply with local safety regulations and building codes. Regularly review and update these to remain compliant
🟠 Conducting regular drills in all assembly areas to familiarise all persons with their locations and to identify potential issues for adjustments
🟠 Determining what may be needed for extended time at each assembly area, including first aid kits, evacuation kits, communication devices, water, signage and an emergency contact list
🟠 Determining what may be needed in extreme weather at each assembly area
🟠 Developing a communications plan, including people’s roles and methods of reporting back to the Chief Warden from each assembly area
