What if… you’re in lockdown and someone wants to come in?

by | 20 Aug 2024

If an organisation is required to go into lockdown due to an emergency, this usually means that no one can leave or enter.

The ultimate objective is to be UNSEEN and UNHEARD to ensure the threat remains outside. This objective should form part of your lockdown process as outlined below:

  • Activate the lockdown announcement
  • Move into the closest safe space
  • Turn off the lights
  • Close doors
  • Lock doors if possible
  • Close windows and blinds (if possible and safe)
  • Sit below the window line and out of sight of windows and doors (where possible)
  • Turn phones off
  • Remain completely quiet and still
  • Wait for the Chief Warden or Police to provide further instructions. Remain in lockdown until this point
  • When a lockdown is completed, sweep the buildings to ensure those that were in lockdown are aware the lockdown is complete, identify any persons needing assistance, and account for persons
  • Debrief the process and provide trauma counselling to those requiring it
